I was introduced to Rocky Rivera’s powerful music thanks to her awesome set at Rickshaw Stop for a Women’s Audio Mission showcase night. Since then I have played her in a ton of my episodes (starting with “Pussy Kills” in Woman Power I), and most recently I saw her perform at The New Parish for her Rocky’s Revenge album release party with openers Versoul, Shy’an G and more.
The art for the album cover of Rocky’s Revenge is a painting by Phung Huynh, which depicts Rocky as the goddess Kali, slayer of time & death, with the heads of Proud Boys around her neck. Get your Rocky’s Revenge gear direct from her while it lasts. I wear my crew neck sweatshirt everywhere, makes cat-callers think twice for sure. (I hand-wash mine, the print quality is super high.)

For more, check out this 2016 article from East Bay Express about Rocky’s perspective on feminism — read it here: “I make music that I want to hear, that represents the diversity of thought that women encompass. My music doesn't represent everyone, but the topics I discuss move towards more authentic inclusivity.”
